Every timepiece offered by Watchbox World undergoes a careful inspection and authentication process before it is made available for sale. We stand behind the authenticity of every watch we represent as genuine.
If a watch purchased directly from Watchbox World is conclusively determined to be counterfeit or materially misrepresented as to its authenticity, we will work with the original purchaser to resolve the matter in accordance with this Authentication Guarantee.
Our Authenticity Commitment
Watchbox World guarantees that every watch represented and sold by us as an authentic luxury timepiece is genuine to the brand represented.
Our authentication process is designed to identify counterfeit, altered, incorrectly represented, or otherwise questionable watches before they enter our inventory.
Depending on the brand, model, age, value, and complexity of the watch, our review may include examination of:
- Case construction and finishing
- Reference numbers
- Serial numbers and identifying markings
- Dial printing, configuration, and finishing
- Hands and hour markers
- Bezel construction
- Crown and pushers
- Crystal
- Bracelet or strap
- End links
- Clasp and clasp codes
- Movement architecture
- Movement markings and engravings
- Rotor and bridge finishing
- Caliber configuration

Where appropriate, a watch may also undergo mechanical inspection by an experienced watchmaker.
Every Watch Is Examined Individually
We do not authenticate watches simply because they arrive with a box, warranty card, purchase receipt, certificate, or other documentation.
Documentation can support provenance, but the watch itself must pass our authentication review.
Likewise, the absence of original paperwork does not automatically mean that a watch is not authentic.
Our determination is based on the physical watch, its components, identifying characteristics, available records, and the information reasonably available to us during inspection.
Our Multi-Point Authentication Process
1. Exterior Inspection
The watch is examined for characteristics expected from the represented manufacturer and reference.
Our review may include:

Counterfeit watches have become increasingly sophisticated, which is why we do not rely on a single feature when evaluating authenticity.
2. Dial and Component Examination
The dial is one of the most important components of a luxury watch.
Where applicable, we evaluate characteristics such as:
- Logo placement
- Font
- Printing quality
- Text spacing
- Lume application
- Hour markers
- Date window
- Sub-dials
- Dial texture
- Dial configuration
- Reference-specific details
We also examine whether visible components are consistent with the represented model and production period.
3. Movement Inspection
Where appropriate and reasonably necessary, our authentication process may include inspection of the movement.
Movement examination may include:

Where applicable, reference and serial information is reviewed for consistency with the represented watch.
We may examine whether the identifying information corresponds appropriately with:

- Production period
- Case

- Manufacturer specifications
Not all manufacturers use the same serial-number system, and not all serial information is publicly searchable.
Accordingly, authentication is based on the totality of the available evidence rather than any single database or serial-number lookup.
5. Mechanical Evaluation
Where appropriate, mechanical watches may also be evaluated for basic operational condition.
This may include examination of:
- Timekeeping
- Amplitude
- Beat error
- Winding
- Power reserve behavior
- Crown operation
- Chronograph functions
- Date functions
- Other complications
Mechanical testing is separate from authentication.
A genuine watch may require service, adjustment, or repair, particularly when dealing with older or vintage timepieces.
Genuine Does Not Always Mean Every Component Is Original
This distinction is important.
A watch may be authentic while containing a component that was replaced during legitimate servicing or repair.
For example, a genuine watch may contain:
- A manufacturer replacement dial
- Replacement hands
- A replacement bezel
- A replacement crystal
- A replacement crown
- A replacement bracelet
- Replacement movement components
- Other manufacturer service parts
The presence of an authentic replacement or service component does not necessarily make the watch counterfeit.
Whenever we become aware of a material replacement, aftermarket, customized, or non-original component that could reasonably affect the value or collectibility of a watch, we endeavor to disclose that information in the product description.
Aftermarket and Customized Components
Some luxury watches have been modified by previous owners.
Examples may include:
- Aftermarket diamond settings
- Customized dials
- Aftermarket bezels
- Aftermarket bracelets
- Custom engraving
- Non-manufacturer straps
- Modified cases
- Replacement components
A watch containing disclosed aftermarket or customized components may still contain a genuine manufacturer watch or movement.
Where material aftermarket modifications are known to us, they will be disclosed whenever reasonably practicable.
Our Authentication Guarantee applies to the authenticity representations specifically made in the listing and does not transform a disclosed aftermarket component into a manufacturer-original component.
Vintage Watches
Vintage watches require specialized consideration.
During the lifetime of a watch that may be several decades old, it may have undergone:
- Manufacturer servicing
- Independent servicing
- Dial replacement
- Hand replacement
- Crown replacement
- Crystal replacement
- Bracelet replacement
- Movement repairs
- Polishing
- Restoration
- Refinishing
For this reason, unless specifically represented otherwise in writing, Watchbox World does not guarantee that every component of a vintage watch left the manufacturer together in its present configuration.
We do, however, stand behind the authenticity representations made in the applicable product listing.
Box and Papers
Many watches offered by Watchbox World include original boxes, warranty cards, certificates, manuals, tags, receipts, or other accessories.
Where included, these items will be described in the applicable listing.
Our Authentication Guarantee does not rely solely upon the presence of these accessories.
A box or warranty card alone is not sufficient proof of authenticity.
Likewise, a genuine watch may no longer have its original box or documentation.
Manufacturer Warranty Cards
A manufacturer warranty card accompanying a watch does not necessarily mean that the manufacturer warranty remains active.
Manufacturer warranty coverage may depend on:
- Date of purchase
- Country of purchase
- Manufacturer policies
- Previous service
- Warranty registration
- Transferability
- Warranty expiration
- Modifications
Watchbox World cannot control whether a manufacturer elects to honor a manufacturer warranty unless expressly stated otherwise.
Independent Dealer Disclosure
Watchbox World is an independent luxury watch dealer.
Unless specifically stated otherwise, we are not an authorized dealer, distributor, service center, representative, sponsor, or affiliate of the luxury watch manufacturers whose products we sell.
Brand names, model names, reference numbers, logos, and trademarks appearing on our website belong to their respective owners and are used solely to identify the products being offered.
Our Authentication Guarantee is provided by Watchbox World, not by the manufacturer.
What Happens If You Question a Watch’s Authenticity?
If you purchased a watch directly from Watchbox World and later develop a legitimate authenticity concern, contact us as soon as reasonably possible.
Please provide:
- Your name
- Order or invoice number
- Watch brand
- Model or reference number
- Serial information where appropriate
- Description of the concern
- Photographs where relevant
- Any supporting documentation or professional assessment available
We will review the matter and may request that the watch be returned to Watchbox World for examination.
Independent Evaluation
Depending on the circumstances, Watchbox World may request or obtain an evaluation from:
- An independent watchmaker
- A recognized authentication specialist
- A manufacturer
- An authorized service center
- A qualified third-party expert
A customer’s statement that another dealer “does not believe” a watch is authentic does not, by itself, conclusively establish that the watch is counterfeit.
We may require reasonable supporting evidence and an opportunity to physically inspect the watch before making a final determination.
If a Watch Is Determined to Be Counterfeit
If a watch sold directly by Watchbox World as genuine is conclusively determined to be counterfeit, Watchbox World will accept return of the watch from the original purchaser and provide an appropriate remedy.
Where rescission of the transaction is appropriate, the remedy may include a refund of the purchase price paid to Watchbox World for the affected watch.
Before a refund is issued:
- The watch must be returned to Watchbox World
- The watch must be the same watch purchased from Watchbox World
- Serial and identifying information must match our transaction records
- The watch must not have been fraudulently substituted
- The claim must successfully complete our authentication review
Refunds are ordinarily made using the original payment method where reasonably possible.
Material Misrepresentation
Our guarantee also applies where Watchbox World materially represented a watch as having an authentic manufacturer component and that specific representation is conclusively shown to have been incorrect.
The remedy will depend on the nature and materiality of the issue.
Depending on the circumstances, Watchbox World may offer:
- Repair
- Replacement
- Component replacement
- Price adjustment
- Exchange
- Refund
The appropriate remedy will depend on the specific facts of the transaction and applicable law.
Authentication Guarantee Exclusions
The Authentication Guarantee does not cover an authenticity issue caused after delivery by:
- Modification of the watch
- Replacement of components
- Installation of counterfeit components
- Unauthorized customization
- Case modification
- Dial modification
- Movement replacement
- Serial-number alteration
- Fraudulent substitution
- Tampering intended to change the watch’s identity
If a watch has been serviced or modified after purchase, Watchbox World may require evidence sufficient to establish that the component in question was present when the watch was originally sold by us.
These exclusions do not affect rights that applicable law does not permit us to exclude.
Authentication vs. Condition
Authentication and condition are separate matters.
Our Authentication Guarantee does not mean that a pre-owned watch will be cosmetically flawless.
A genuine watch may exhibit:
- Scratches
- Dings
- Polishing
- Bracelet stretch
- Patina
- Fading
- Wear
- Previous servicing
- Replacement manufacturer parts
Condition is described separately in the applicable product listing.
Customers should carefully review photographs and condition information before purchasing.
Authentication vs. Mechanical Condition
Authenticity also does not guarantee that a watch will never require service.
Luxury mechanical watches contain hundreds of moving components and may require periodic maintenance.
The Authentication Guarantee is therefore separate from any mechanical warranty provided with a particular watch.
Where Watchbox World provides a separate mechanical warranty, the terms of that warranty will govern mechanical defects and service coverage.
Water Resistance
Authentication does not constitute a guarantee of water resistance.
Water resistance depends on components including:
- Gaskets
- Crown
- Pushers
- Crystal
- Caseback
- Seals
- Prior servicing
- Age
Unless Watchbox World expressly provides written water-resistance test results or a specific water-resistance warranty, customers should not assume that a pre-owned or vintage watch retains its original manufacturer water-resistance rating.
Protection Against Fraudulent Claims
Our guarantee is designed to protect legitimate customers.
Watchbox World reserves the right to reject fraudulent or abusive claims, including claims involving:
- A different watch than the one sold
- Altered serial numbers
- Component substitution
- Intentional damage
- Fraudulent documentation
- Manufactured evidence
- Misrepresentation of an expert opinion
Where appropriate, we may preserve transaction records and cooperate with payment processors, insurers, manufacturers, authentication services, or law-enforcement authorities in investigating suspected fraud.
Records and Documentation
Watchbox World may maintain records relating to watches we buy and sell, including:
- Photographs
- Reference numbers
- Serial information
- Inspection notes
- Transaction records
- Seller information
- Buyer information
- Shipping information
- Authentication observations
These records can assist us in identifying a particular watch if an authenticity concern later arises.
Information is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable law.
